The 2017 World Meetings Forum (WMF), is considered one of the most important events of the Meeting Tourism industry and this place of July 11, 13 at the Hotel Presidente Intercontinental Polanco in Mexico City.
In five editions, this event has brought together more than 800 attendees, 70 international speakers, 40 associations and 15 participating countries, opening the door to opportunities for professionalism, certification and business closure.
For this edition of the World Meetings Forum the invited country is Costa Rica, and during the event, a new methodology will be developed for the closure of business among attendees, which focused on the philosophy of “face-to-face.” This is a great opportunity for the country, as in the Forum, there will be a gather of the leaders in the MICE industry with the objective of sharing information and trends. At the same time, there will be a unique education program with will provide business opportunities.
The trend of “face to face” was also announced to close more business and is still rising in this industry. The figures are: 60% of what constitutes a planning event (31.6%), food and beverages (14.6%) and accommodation (13.8%) require a face-to-face meeting.
They have also addressed six advantages of this practice for closing business such as commitment, words used, the tone of voice, conscious movements, facial expressions and unconscious body language. According to Comscore, the closing of sales directly reaches 79% of effectiveness compared to 21% via online.
It also analyzes the influence of the Internet on business and mentions that while face-to-face practice in many industries is imperative, specialists point out that it is important to have a good balance with the offline world and use available platforms that let them simulate face-to-face meetings such as video conferences.

For Premio DMC this is an important step and a great way to induce Costa Rica even more in the MICE industry, by sharing knowledge and opportunities and studying the different spaces in where the commerce grows.
