“A major convention center is to be built in Costa Rica before May 2018”. This is the promise that President Luis Guillermo Solis and Tourism Minister Mauricio Ventura made last Thursday, knowing that this project is keystone to promote Costa Rica as an ideal destination for conventions, conferences and meetings.
The new Convention Center will be built on a 10-hectare property situated 8 kilometers from the International Juan Santamaría Airport and 10 kilometers from the heart of San Jose. It is to have a capacity of 4,600 people and it has a sustainable design that includes reflective roofs, rainwater harvesting, automatic shut-off taps, high efficiency air conditioning systems, and LED lighting and 10,000 square meters of solar panels which will give energy for the building services.
Seven private contractors have been pre-qualified for the bid and they all have 45 days to submit their bids for the government to analyze and announce the winner in 90 days.
The idea is to “break ground before the rainy season” Mauricio Ventura assured.
For us in Premio DMC this is great news as we know that the new convention center will boost the travel industry of Costa Rica which indeed is a great location for this specialized market. But also because our government pledge is to continue supporting the meetings industry in our country.
It is all good news here!
