Tamarindo is one of the most popular destinations in Costa Rica and definitely a top tourism hub in Guanacaste. The list of experiences to live, tours to go on and activities to enjoy are almost infinite and makes this great location a favorite off site destination for the participants out of the Westin Playa Conchal Hotel and the JW Marriott Resort. From diving in the nearby islands to horseback riding, it is easy to keep participants busy and interested!
Here are some of our most popular activities in the region:
Enjoy Tamarindo and the surroundings on one of the top adventures of the area. This almost two hour ATV tour brings you to secondary roads and trails, passing little towns, creeks (during the rainy season, mud plays a funny role during this tour) and farms while enjoying great views of the dry forest. As you drive through the forest side paths there is a big chance to spot for howler monkeys and depending on which trail you go, you might end up in some peaks with stunning views of the Pacific Coast and the ocean.
Near the Tamarindo area there are a few of the most amazing zip-lining tours in Costa Rica. Offering sometimes up to 11 cables through the tropical dry forest, this experience will give participants adrenaline and fun! Usually they take 3-4 hours (Including transportation). Definitely a challenging activity and a trip worth to enjoy!
There are two world-class golf courses within 30-minutes of Tamarindo. The beautiful 18-hole course at Hacienda Pinilla, a luxurious estate 15-minutes away from Tamarindo and the impressive Garra de Leon Golf Course – a gorgeous Robert Trend Jones II 18-hole, par 72 course.
This is the land of Sabaneros, name for our local Cowboys! Either enjoying the open Haciendas’ cattle fields or enjoying a sunset slow pace horseback ride on the beach, these are the most traditional tours in the region of Guanacaste.
Palo Verde Floating Trip
A laid back river adventure, going into the Tempisque basin, this tour offers an easy relaxed way to enjoy the birds, the crocodiles, iguanas and other wonders in a gorgeous permanently green view. Accompanied by a naturalist certified tour guide, this is a natural history learning and definitely a nature lover must! Besides nature, there is a great combination to the old Hacienda El Viejo, a location where the participant learn about the local history, sugar cane and old-time traditions.
In the Ocean
Warm ocean all over the year, great all year summer weather, (even with the green season rain) Tamarindo is just one of those locations participants felt in love the minute they arrive.
Comfortable and beautiful catamarans sail from Tamarindo Bay every day. Morning snorkeling tours or private sunset tours are always considered into programs to amuse participants. This tour offer extra activities like snorkeling and kayaking, complemented by delicious appetizers, soft drinks and beers.
Scuba diving tours could be an option for those with experience in open water diving – especially during the rainy months between May and October, when visibility is at its best (between 30 and 80 feet or 9 to 24 meters). Participants with PADI certifications can arrange a trip to the famous Catalina islands, an archipelago located 20 minutes offshore. Here, divers can observe an incredible diversity of aquatic life – white tip reef sharks, spotted eagle rays and colorful schools of small tropical fish. Humpback whales can be seen in the area from September to March, and large schools of cow-nosed and devil rays can be spotted between January and March.
Surfing and Tamarindo are almost synonyms. If your program happens at the Westin Playa Conchal or the JW Marriott (even the Gulf Papagayo Area Resorts), Tamarindo and the surfing lessons are always a possible activity, fun, challenging and a 100% satisfaction rate from our participants.
With warm water and year-round breaks creates a spot ideal for professionals as much as for beginners. The town is dedicated to the sport, with dozens of stores, schools, board rentals, and after the activity free time to enjoy the town and the eating options.
